Abstract

Objectives: We examined the relationship between work values and employment status of nursing graduates.
Methods: We accessed the Graduate Occupational Mobility Survey 2015?2018 and on data of 1,035 nursing graduates.
Results: Work environmental values were considered more important by hospital nurses (OR = 1.77, 95% CI = 1.01?3.11) and the unemployed (OR = 2.57, 95% CI = 1.25?5.30) compared to nurses working outside hospitals. Conversely, when they were older(OR = 0.87, 95% CI = 0.77?0.98), had an experience of preparing for the civil service test (OR = 0.24, 95% CI = 0.13?0.43), and considered career development values more important (OR = 0.48, 95% CI = 0.29?0.80), the likelihood of working as a nurse in a hospital (compared to outside hospitals) was significantly lower.
Conclusions: Nursing schools should provide career counseling that allows students to recognize and follow work values. Furthermore, hospitals should encourage the professional development of nurses.
